Welcome

If you’re a guitar listener, a beginner player, a seasoned professional or anywhere in between – you are very welcome to join us as we enjoy listening to and playing music for guitar.

Guitar Ensemble:

If you have yet to join our ensemble – be brave – choose a part that suits your ability – print the music and start practicing.

Owen has very kindly (as he does each year) taken responsibility for organising the guitar ensemble music.

The pieces we are playing for a start are the following:

1.       Joropo
2.       Tyrolean Cradle Song
3.       The Sage Leaf
4.       Going Cuckoo
5.       The Water is wide.
6.     Little Prelude
7.     Forrest Ensemble Series No. 5 (My Love Hath Vow’d, Banks and Braes, Minuet for the French Horn, Gavot, La Filadora)

Copies of all the above the ensemble pieces are available via this website (free to the public):

Performance opportunities:

All members and guests at the WCGS meetings are warmly encouraged to play something! This is a friendly and supportive performance outing which can help to focus your practice each month.  And please remember – it does not have to be the hardest piece in the world. And also it does not have to be played perfectly to be enjoyable for others to listen to. This a big part of what we are about – lots of us playing guitar. It could be a future or previous exam piece for example. Or just something you have been working on recently. Just let one of the committee members know at the start of the meeting so we can budget the time.

October meeting:

A very special performance by the NZSM Large Ensemble. Members of the NZSM guitar orchestra will perform repertoire from their 2016season! A unique opportunity to see a great group of truly accomplished young musicians in a rare public performance.

Previous meetings and concerts:

Last month we had a particularly satisfying meeting rehearsing for our Christmas concert. It’s great to have the opportunity to play beautiful guitar music with like minded musicians.

Future meetings: November 6
