Matias Ceballo This will start at about 5.30pm. Wellington based composer, multi-instrumentalist musician and vocalist originally from the South of Chile. Through his travels Matias has come to know the identity of the guitar in different countries of Latin America, and has dedicated his work especially to the Latin American Trova. In his compositions he mixes the Spanish guitar and the Latin American guitar. Matias has been playing music for over 20 years, and recorded a number of albums. His original music work is largely influenced by the roots of the native culture and the traditions of his homeland. His work presents aspects linked with different important social events that took place in the Chilean history and the different realities of the lives of the native Mapuche people (indigenous people of South-Central Chile) exploring the themes of love, injustice,...

July Meeting (1st July) New Zealand Music

New Zealand Music A few years ago we had a meeting where we only played guitar music from New Zealand. Quite a few members played their own compositions. We would like to do the same thing for our July meeting this year . So that is the theme. Either play one or a few pieces you have composed yourself! Or played something by a New Zealand composer. How adventurous is that! Be challenged. Give it a go. We are letting you know now so you have time to prepare. It is a big bold step to be able to say “I play other peoples music. To Avoid Queens Birthday this meeting has been transferred to Sunday 10th June. At Thistle Hall 293 Cuba St, Te Aro, Wellington The meeting will start at 4.15 and finish at 6.30 pm. Access to the meeting room is through an open door on the side of the building in Arthur Street. Then go upstairs to the first floor. Then go upstairs to the first floor.   Featuring the NZSM guitar ensemble We are very fortunate to welcome the New Zealand School of Music Guitar Ensemble.(with warm thanks to Jane Curry who leads this group). They will be our feature performance for the second half of the meeting. The student leaders of the group are Emma and Joel. Thanks to them also.
