Our next meeting will be held on Sunday Sunday 5th November

At Thistle Hall

293 Cuba St, Te Aro, Wellington

The meeting will start at 4.15 and finish at 6.30 pm.

Access to the meeting room is through an open door on the side of the building in Arthur Street. Then go upstairs to the first floor.

This month of November is Trinity exam time. Students have been preparing their exam pieces during the year. So it is great if they can have a run through playing for our guitar group.

Some guitar students from the Guitar Program at Victoria University will be presenting pieces from their final performances for 2017 at our meeting next Sunday 5th November. This will be great range of wonderful pieces played to a fine level of performance.
Come and support these aspiring young musicians.
Come and enjoy some really wonderful live music.
A taste of the program includes:

Suite Castellana by F. Torroba
Too (Sur)real by Louisa Nicklin
Lucid Mike Hogan (1971*)
Vingt-Sixiéme Ordre François Couperin (1668-1733)
La Convalescente
La Sophie
La Convalescente
La Sophie
Les Sylvains
Six Balkan Miniatures Dušan Bogdanović (1955*)

Videos of guitar circle performances:
1. All in a garden green

2. The water is wide

3. German Dance

Last month we had no featured artist. Then we had a wonderful “Featured Performance” of 2 pieces by Jack Body for 2 guitars played by Jane and Owen.
Also would be good to record a couple more pieces from the guitar ensemble with the little Zoom camera which can then be loaded onto youtube so that you can show family and friends what you do in Cuba Street one Sunday a month.
The pieces will be:
Drink to Me Only
Hong Dou Ci

Please practise as much as you can. But even if you feel confident to play in only one of the pieces – just do that. You can always step out for pieces you don’t feel confident with.
I will have spare copies of the music but bring your own if possible.

First part of the evening:
1. For what has now become a regular part of our evening we will continue with Clyde running us through simple pieces well within the capability of relatively early stage guitarists. Many thanks to Clyde.
2. Members playing:
As usual we will have time for members playing. Either ensembles, duos or solos. And please, it does not have to be “classical” music that you perform. Jazz , pop , folk. And also “own compositions” are very welcome.

The pieces we will work with today will be in the following order:
Note we have a new piece no. 22 from 48 preludes and fugues by JS Bach
Here is a link to a youtube of it and the associated fugue – which we are not playing
2. Drink to Me Only
5. Hong Dou Ci http://www.forrestguitarensembles.co.uk/Assets/scores/quartets/Q0064HongDouCi.pdf
6. Le Phenix http://www.forrestguitarensembles.co.uk/Assets/scores/quartets/Q0015LePhenix.pdf
7. Set of quartet pieces #2 by Forrest. These can be found at the following link.

8. http://www.forrestguitarensembles.co.uk/Assets/scores/quartets/Q0010JSBachPreludeNo22.pdf

I will also have some extra copies at the meeting.
Only print what you need for your part.

These all have reasonably simple parts. . But also some parts are more difficult than others for the same piece. Generally the 3rd part is the easiest. Choose a part that is reasonably easy to play for you. Please if possible download and print for yourself. However, If you forget to do this before the meeting – fear not – we will have paper copies at the meeting. But it is a big help if you can do this for yourself.

Also – for some, this will be too much music to practice. So just choose the first 2 or three and work on those. Then you can step out of the group if you wish for the harder pieces. It is a great experience to play as part of this bigger group and it will be fantastic to have as many as possible to take part.
