To promote the classical guitar in the community

Octobers Meeting – Sunday October First. Everyone Featured.

No featured artist this month.
However our feature activity will be that we will record 3 more pieces on the little zoom video camera which can then be loaded onto youtube so that you can show family and friends what you do in Cuba Street one Sunday a month.
At Thistle Hall : 293 Cuba St, Te Aro, Wellington
The pieces will be:

Drink to Me Only
German Dance
The water is wide
Hong Dou Ci

These can be accessed at

Please practise as much as you can. But even if you feel confident to play in only one or two of the pieces – just do that. You can always step out for pieces you don’t feel confident with.
I will have spare copies of the music but bring your own if possible.

First part of the evening:
1. Our esteemed member, Jane Curry is not only a wonderful player but also has a wealth of knowledge of the technical sides of classical guitar playing. She has kindly agreed to lead us though a session on useful warm up techniques for playing the guitar.
2. For what has now become a regular part of our evening we will continue with Clyde running us through simple pieces well within the capability of relatively early stage guitarists. Many thanks to Clyde. Depending on time we will play through more of our ensemble repertoire.

Members playing:
As usual we will have time for members playing. Either ensembles, duos or solos. And please, it does not have to be “classical” music that you perform. Jazz , pop , folk. And also “own compositions” are very welcome.

2. Drink to Me Only

4. The water is wide

8. http://www.forrestguitarensembles.co.uk/Assets/scores/quartets/Q0010JSBachPreludeNo22.pdf

I will also have some extra copies at the meeting.

Only print what you need for your part.

These all have reasonably simple parts. . But also some parts are more difficult than others for the same piece. Generally the 3rd part is the easiest. Choose a part that is reasonably easy to play for you. Please if possible download and print for yourself. However, If you forget to do this before the meeting – fear not – we will have paper copies at the meeting. But it is a big help if you can do this for yourself.

Also – for some, this will be too much music to practice. So just choose the first 2 or three and work on those. Then you can step out of the group if you wish for the harder pieces. It is a great experience to play as part of this bigger group and it will be fantastic to have as many as possible to take part.

Following meeting – Sunday – November 5th ( or maybe 12th if lots of people are going crackers on the 5th)
To be announced.
