Committee Meeting – February 2019

Welcome to 2019 and another year of guitar activities with the Wellington Guitar Circle.

Your committee met on Sunday 3rd Feb to plan for the year.

We have an interesting and pretty full program organised but are still open to any other offers or ideas you may have for feature quests for our Sunday afternoon meetings.

As brief summary of the committee meeting is as follows:

Charitable Trust

We discussed making the society into a charitable trust. This could be together with the NZ Classical Guitar Competition. It could help us apply for funding and help us sponsor  a visiting artist  concert each year. Anyone got any experience with creating a charitable trust who could help us with this?

Program for year

Includes Jane Curry, Pickett Lovell guitar duo, Amber Madriaga (duo), NZ music with Michael Riddell and Michael Stoop, Joel Baldwin, Clydes wonder group, Julie Bevan Bossa Nova and more.

Ensemble Repetoire

New music for this year. Simple to more complex. Available either online for free or printed copy for $10. Should be ready for first meeting.

Flyers

Marion is getting flyers organized for everyone to distribute to help promote our group.

Subscriptions

We do have ongoing costs. Hall hire. Koha to established guests (new this year). Supper.  Presentation expenses.  And maybe help towards support of a visiting artist. Please if you can pay your $40 sub for the year it is a great support for a worthy cause – our group. How to do this is on this newsletter at the bottom.

Any other ideas or initiatives for our group are very welcomed.

1st Meeting 2019 – Feature spot

Jane Curry

Apart from normal meeting activities – the repertoire book will be presented and also Jane Curry will do an interactive presentation on tone and technique.  This could be the best guitar lesson you might receive this year.  I am very interested to hear what she has to say and what I might learn!

Here is a youtube link of Jane playing most beautifully.

Meeting Introduction

Clyde will start us off with an introduction simpler piece for all in a group situation. Many thanks to Clyde for the contributions he makes  to our group in this area.

Ensemble Work

I will try and get a copy of the first couple on pieces organised for members before the meeting. This will come in a future email.

Members playing:

As usual we will have time for members playing. Either ensembles, duos or solos. And please, it does not  have to be “classical”  music that you perform.  Jazz , pop , folk. And also “own compositions” are very welcome.
